Many companies who offer goods and services or monitor the behaviour of data subjects based in the UK, but who do not have an establishment or office within the UK, are required by Article 27 of the UK GDPR to designate a UK Representative, subject to some exemptions. In requiring a UK Rep, an organisation needs a point of contact for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and individuals (data subjects) on issues related to the processing of personal data for those individuals. This is to ensure compliance with the UK GDPR and other applicable data protection legislation.
